Nick Bonadias

Nick has been living and teaching in East London since 2015, and has been finding different ways to press piano keys – often in different combinations – for much longer. As a teacher, they’ve been proud to accompany a number of new and experienced musicians .

Originally from the U.S., Nick came to London for a masters at the Royal Academy of Music, also earning their teaching licentiate (LRAM). They’ve since just completed a doctorate at Guildhall School of Music & Drama, which reconsidered common teaching and learning practices in classical conservatoires – thinking of ways musicianship teaching might serve underrepresented and marginalized groups more inclusively.

As a soloist and accompanist, they’ve featured in numerous recitals in the southeast, including at the Barbican and St. John Smith’s Square; elsewhere, they’ve written and music directed Offie-nominated community opera productions at the Arcola Theatre in Dalston, and accompanied burlesque nights at the nearby Glory, among other appearances.

Bio:

Reflective of teaching experience mixed with ‘real life’ musicianship, Nick’s work with any student is highly interactive, responsive, and – as challenges are met and celebrated each week – geared toward a sense of self-directed, self-generative fulfilment. (In other words: finding that piano can feel good – perhaps even a bit addicting!) From younger beginners to working professionals, Nick’s students have gained fluency in mastering pieces, sight reading, chord symbols, improvisation, and/or composition, depending on their goals; others have excelled in graded exams, taken up music O- and A-levels, shared their own songs alone or in a band, accompanied choirs, and/or won auditions to higher music education.

When not traveling to students, Nick teaches from their home studio in Walthamstow, where

they live with husband Alex and their puppy, Gio, who just turned 2

Robert Dimbleby

Jazz pianist and multi-instrumentalist Robert Dimbleby has been making a name for himself with his original blend of jazz, funk and soul music from a young age.His videos online have amassed millions of views and he has performed across Europe and at venues and festivals in the UK such as Ronnie Scott’s, BBC Studios, The Blue Note, The Apex, Camden Assembly, Notting Hill Arts Club, Bestival, YNOT festival.

‘Rob teaches Piano, Bass and Guitar lessons’

Born and raised in a small village on the edge of the pastoral Peak District landscape, Robert naturally had to find a hobby to pass the time when he wasn’t climbing trees or hanging out with his local friends (both of them). Fortunately, his grandma was a piano teacher and saw an opportunity to inspire a young musician by way of an upright piano. Sure enough, as soon as Robert was tall enough to reach the keyboard there was no stopping him. At age 7 he became captivated by the driving boogie-woogie music of Albert Ammons and Meade Lux Lewis and he has been honing his craft as an improviser ever since.

Robert holds a distinction in Grade 8 piano and a DipABRSM in classical piano performance. He is now working as a jazz pianist and session musician for a range of bands, vocalists and instrumentalists. An avid composer and producer, Robert has released over 6 albums worth of original music as heard on BBC radios across the country. Inspired by pianists such as Oscar Peterson, Wynton Kelly, Kenny Barron, Mulgrew Miller, Erroll Garner, Herbie Hancock, Jason Rebello and Joe Sample, Robert is known for his strong rhythmic feel, lively touch, and soulful improvisational chops on the piano. His versatility and musicality makes him an exciting performer in any setting.

We are a music academy bringing students in East London the opportunity to learn and grow with top-level musicians in a nurturing, responsive, and highly supportive environment.
